Race Day Style

What to wear to Thirsk Races

Thirsk Racecourse runs meetings through the season, building to its September Ladies Day. Here's how we'd help you dress for a day there, with pieces from the rails at Well Heeled.

The Dress Code, In Short

Smart, not sportswear

Thirsk Racecourse's Premier Enclosure asks for smart dress; hats and fascinators are popular, though not compulsory. Sportswear, fancy dress, casual shorts, torn garments and heavily distressed denim aren't permitted. Dress codes can vary slightly by enclosure and by meeting, so it's always worth checking the racecourse's own current guidance before the day.

Yorkshire race days are often breezy and can turn cool even in summer, so a proper layer for over your outfit is worth as much thought as the outfit itself.

What We'd Reach For

A full look, not just one piece

A dress or skirt for Premier Enclosure smartness, a jacket or coat that actually works over it, and a knitwear layer for cooler meetings: race day is a full-look occasion, and it's worth trying pieces together rather than one at a time.

Have a look at dresses & skirts, jackets & coats and occasionwear, or come in and we'll help put a full outfit together in person, it's a lot easier to get right when you can actually try the layers on.
